fAR-Play (for Augmented Reality Play) is a framework for development of augmented reality games (ARGs). Using the fAR-Play platform, in conjunction with Hoppala! virtual points of interest (animals, statues, sign posts, etc.) are placed in real world locations. Next a Layar is created to allow players to locate points of interest outside, using a smart phone (indoor points of interest are scanned using QR tags with BeeTag). two types of game can be made with fAR-Play, virtual scavenger hunt and virtual treasure hunt.

Virtual Treasure Hunt

A virtual treasure hunt is collection driven. points of interest are placed in a given area and players capture and collect them. They are free to collect them in an order and as few or as many as they like.

Virtual Scavenger Hunt

A virtual scavenger hunt is an objective based race. Points of interest are not freely detectable in Layar and must be discovered in a specific order. Each point of interest, upon being scanned, will pose a multiple choice question. Upon correctly answering it the player(s) will be given a clue to the next point of interest. The first team to scan the final point of interest wins the game.
